The article is very well done, as usual by AVFC. One complaint -- after doing all that research, it might help to give one recommendation on a supplement. You're clear that eating a healthy diet is the best way to get Mag., but is there a certain pill you can pop that stands out? There are literally hundreds of different supps on the market. I started taking Mag. Breakthrough just because I saw JP Sears endorse it, but is that the best?

Hi there, and thanks for your comment. Understand your need, and typically we don't recommend specific brands or dosages. We don't endorse, nor are we affiliates of any particular companies. Magnesium is especially tricky to source for a couple of reasons: 1. There are many types, and you need to choose a type that best fits your deficiency and/or health goal. 2. Many, and by many I can honestly say "most" brands use junk fillers. It's tough, and sometimes impossible to pull a clean bottle of magnesium off any store shelf.

So you must first determine which type of magnesium will suit you best, and then source a clean one. And then ... as with all nutritional supplements ... experiment.

Supplements can have interactions w/ pharmaceuticals; another reason we stay away from specific recommendations, and suggest consulting w/ your healthcare practitioner.

One idea, and something I personally do, is shop at vitacost.com. You can look at many types of magnesium and read the ingredients labels. Make sure the "other ingredients" are clean; no stearates, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, and dyes, etc.

A few clean companies in general are Paradise Herbs, Emerald Labs, and Oregon's Wild Harvest. Even so, you must always read the labels yourself.

I took a look at the Breakthrough Mag JP Sears recommended. Honestly, for my standards, the proprietary ingredients in the "other ingredients" list would call for deeper research. Knowing what each ingredient consists of is a good plan of action before putting it in your body.

I hope this is helpful.
